The French population is aging. According to INSEE projections, in 2050, more than one in three French people will be aged 60 or over, compared to one in five in 2005. The French population is aging. According to INSEE projections, in 2050, more than one in three French people will be aged 60 or over, compared to one in five in 2005. Many challenges await us in adapting to this evolution, first and foremost the health and autonomy issues of this population. The daily life of dependent elderly people encounters several obstacles: loss of autonomy, risk of falling, etc. The layout of the home, and in particular the bathroom, must provide reinforced safety conditions to facilitate the daily life of seniors and people with disabilities. Traditional sanitary facilities do not meet these specific needs. This is why specific arrangements can be put in place to improve the living conditions of seniors at home. To do this, you can act on different elements of the bathroom, from the shower to the bathtub to the sink.
SECURING THE SHOWER
The walk-in shower is both very aesthetic and perfectly suited for the elderly. Indeed, the tray is recessed into the ground, allowing level access. The installation of a shower bar makes it safe to use and considerably reduces the risk of falling. Several types of grab bars exist depending on your needs (straight bars, angled bars, shower bars, etc.). At Pellet, we find the Arsis shower bar with its integrated shower holder. Ingenious, it offers different configurations in the shower: the "T" or "L" installation allows the installer to fix the bar by adapting to the existing taps. A shower seat is also very practical to improve the comfort of people with reduced mobility. Fixed, foldable or removable, it makes the toilet secure thanks to a resistant seat. Solid and non-slip, its reliability has been put to the test. For total safety, there are models with backrest and armrests to offer additional support. Our different ranges of sanitary accessories made in France offer a classic, modern or contemporary design to fit perfectly into the style of the bathroom.
RETHINKING THE BATHTUB
On the bath side, the bathtub seats and bath boards facilitate and secure access to the bathtub. Available with or without a backrest, these pieces of equipment minimize the effort required to get in and out of the bath, and provide comfortable seating. Removable, they do not require drilling and can be easily adapted to the uses of all members of the family.
ADAPT THE WASHBASIN
Often neglected in terms of comfort and safety, the washbasin can also benefit from some adjustments that will make it easier to use for the elderly. Our height-adjustable washbasin supports are part of this logic. The adjustment can be done manually, using a pneumatic cylinder, or electrically. Thus, you can let an armchair pass one moment, and raise the sink the next moment so that it adapts to a person who could no longer bend over.
OTHER EQUIPMENT
For maximum safety, non-slip coatings or gratings are required on all bathroom equipment: in the bathtub, at the exit of the shower, but also in front of all sanitary facilities that can generate moisture on the floor. PELLET also offers toilet extensions adapted to seniors and disabled people to improve their comfort and safety.
